Bowel Movements | Your Body’s Waste Matters
Bowel movements or can be referred to as, solid waste — colour, texture, scent, viscocity, shape, frequency, amount of force required for elimination are paramount to knowing what is happening in your body.
You see, my mom set me on a bowel movement schedule very, very early in my life. And, it has worked like a charm. So much so that I can set my watch to my movements. Because of this regimen, I know everyday what’s happening. Why they are happening, and how to fix things when I’ve done my body wrong, etc.
Preventative Action is the Name of the Game
What your body produces as waste is one of the best indicators to what you have done well for your body and where you have gone terribly wrong. If you are paying attention everyday, you’ll recognize the signs if/when something goes awry and be able to stop them before they get out of hand.
It is reason a stool sample is required before getting a colonoscopy. And, I should add an essential test to the prevention of colon cancer.
Why is this Topic so Important to Me?
3 years ago this December I lost someone I considered to be so close to me. Someone I referred to us as one soul in two bodies. I will not go into how her death has irreparably changed my life, but I strongly believe things could have been drastically different.
She ignored the signs her body was sending her, when after 3 days of regular eating she had not had bowel movements.
She brushed it off, let time pass.
3 days lead to a week, then to 3 weeks, with very minimal movement requiring a lot of force.
3 weeks lead to 6 months of very infrequent movements, again requiring a lot of force, holistic treatments, laxatives, you name it. By the beginning of the 7th month she was diagnosed with a 7cm tumour in her rectum. The doctors said that they may have been able to remove the tumour had they found it earlier.
But because of the size and location they could not.
When she had not had a bowel movement after 3 days I begged her to go to the doctor because in my opinion that is a red flag.
You should be expelling waste from your system daily, if you are eating daily.
She chose not to go, saying it wasn’t a bit deal. After a week of no movement I was freaking out and pleaded with her to go to the doctor, again no action was taken.
My reason for sharing this personal story with you is not to instil fear in you. Instead, to make you aware that your body is always talking to you. And, sending you messages. If you insist on ignoring these indicators, they can eventually lead to serious problems.
A healthy body does not only mean what you’re putting into it, it also includes how it is coming out.
Pay attention. Please.
